HOFFMAN Former Syracuse resident Joseph M . Hoffman , 82, died Dec. 5 in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Services were Dec. 9 in Deerfield. A native of Auburn, Mr. Hoffman came to Syracuse at age 3 and lived here until he moved to Florida in 1970. He retired as a salesman and was employed with Haberle Brewing Co., Onondaga Beverage Co. and E.J. Strodel Inc. He was a 1924 graduate of Vocational High School. In Syracuse Mr. Hoffman was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and later Our Lady of Solace Church. He was active with the Holy Name Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Mr. Hoffman also was active with St. Mary's Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Isabel; two sons, Gerald N. and James J., both of Syracuse; and four grandchildren.
