Rice County Journal - Nov. 27, 1907 (Rice Co., MN.)

Joseph Kahn, one of Faribault's old businessmen, died at his home on Second Street Thursday eve, Nov. 21, at 10:50 o'clock, after an illness resulting from a nervous breakdown and pneumonia, from which he had been suffering for several weeks.
The funeral was held from the home, Sunday, at 1:30 o'clock. Dr. Dinard of St. Paul was in church of the services and the burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery.
Joseph Kahn, who was 73 years of age, was born in Schluchtern, Baden, Germany, August 12, 1834 and came to this country September 24, 1854. May 10, 1870, he was married to Miss Amanda Bachrach.
Mr. and Mrs. Kahn came to Faribault in 1877. He entered into partnership with James Bachrach in the clothing business under the firm name of 'Jim and Joe' and which he has conducted until his death. Mr. Kahn was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Knights of Pythias and the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
His is survived by his wife, three daughters; Mrs. S. S. Freed, Ray and Carrie Kahn, all of this city, and one son, Herbert Kahn of Owatonna.
He had a multitude of friends, and friendships formed are the key to a good life. He was one of the oldest Knights of Pythias in Minnesota, being initiated in an Eastern domain when the order was but a few years old. He joined Faribault Lodge No. 16 of this city, January 31, 1879, in which lodge he has ever maintained continued membership. By special vote of the Grand Lodge January 5, 1881, he was elected a Past Chancellor, receiving the Grand Lodge rank February 13, 1883, and since that date, with possibly only one exception, he has attended every convention of the Grand Lodge, and in point of service as Grand representative, he is clearly the Dean of the Minnesota Grand Lodge. His work in the interests of this Order has not only been of long duration, but his continued faithfulness (demonstrates that) he was a Pythian veteran in the highest and best sense.
