Timothy Hopkins in the book "The Kelloggs in the Old World and the New" in 1905 stated that he believed that this Joseph was in fact the father of the Joseph Kellogg, born in Springfield Massachusetts in 1718 and who married Martha Terry. He did say that some confusion was caused by a record fin the Hatfield Massachusetts Clerks office that among others a "Jos. Kellogg" was killed by indians in 1710. Hopkins believes the undated record may be either in error or referring to a different man. (See discussion pp 38-39 and 1743 of Hopkins work)
