Sailed from Liepāja, Russian Empire (Latvia today), about 20 February 1904. Jossel Farberman, a farmer, left Liverpool, 1 March 1904 aboard the S.S. Lake Manitoba and arrived in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada on 12 March 1904 with two daughters Sorke (Sara) and Leie (Lena). Jossel and daughters continued by rail to his son-in-law Abe Cohodes in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
1908 - One of eight founders of Anshe Knesseth Israel Congregation, Iron Mountain, Michigan.
The Dickinson County Library reports that Joseph Kotler was listed in Iron Mountain directories at 517 West C Street from 1905 to 1913.
1910 US Census lists him as Joseph KATHER at 517 West C Street, a peddler, living with wife Rachel, and children Sarah, Lena, Flora, Abe, Eva, Louis and granddaughter Gertrude (erroneously listed as a niece).
