From "Ye OLD BURYING GROUND OF FAIRFIELD, CONN." by Mrs. Kate Perry, p. 94: "Rev. Joseph Lamson, an Episcopal clergyman was successor to Rev. Henry Caner in 1747, which position he occupied till his death, Aug. 12, 1778. His body was interred in this ground, although nothing tangible marks his resting place."

90 Rev. Joseph /4 Lamson (William /3, Joseph /2, William /1), was born at Stratford, Conn., March 28, 1718, and died in Fairfield, Conn., in 1773. He is believed to have been buried in Burial Hill Cemetery, Fairfield, where his wife and oldest daughter were buried, but there is nothing co mark his grave. He married (i) Alithea Wetmore, daughter of Rev. James and Anna (Dwight) Wetmore, of Rye, N. Y., July 26, 1747, at Rye, N. Y. ; she was born in 1722, and died at Fairfield, Conn., Feb. 8, 1766; married (2) to Mary ; she died very suddenly Jan. 26, 1788, aged 66 years.
Rev. Joseph Lamson was graduated from Yale College in 1741. In 1744 he went to England to take Holy Orders. He returned to America in 1745. The Society for the Propogation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts appointed him as an assistant to the Rev. Mr. Wetmore, the missionary at Rye, N. Y. In 1747 he succeeded Rev. Mr. Caner as rector of the church at Fair- field, Conn. He also officiated at intervals at Ridgefield and Norwalk. Conn. The Episcopalians at Stratfield (now Bridgeport) had become so numerous that they proceeded under the guidance of Mr. Lamson, in 1748, to erect a house of worship which was called St. John's Church. He was an able and accomplished scholar and a devoted and enthusiastic churchman, and was greatly beloved among his people.
He received the degree of M. A. from King's College in 1773. He continued to reside at Fairfield until his death. His will, dated June i, 1773, and proved Sept. 7, 1773, mentions his wife Mary, Esther the wife of Stephen Hoyt, Anna, wife of Samuel Belden, and sons William and John, and daughters Elizabeth and Alithea Lamson.
Inventory of his estate was £860. His library contained over 170 volumes, of which a considerable number related to medicine.

216 Esther /5, b. Fairfield, Conn., Feb. 25, 1751 ; m. Capt. Stephen Hoyt of the Prince of Wales Regiment. He was b. in Norfolk, Conn., in 1750, and lived in Norwalk, Conn. Their children were: (i) Joseph /6 Lamson. (2) Stephen /6. (3) Thomas /6.
217 William /5, b. Fairfield, Conn., Oct., 1752. A physician of Revolutionary fame. He m. Rebecca Adams of Norwalk, Conn., Aug. 16, 1801 ; she was the dau. of Joshua and Sarah Adams.
218 Anna /5, b. Fairfield, Conn., Jan. 28, 1754; m. Samuel Belden of Norwalk, Conn., March 9, 1774. Their children were: (i) Thomas /6 Lamson, b. Jan. 17, 1775; m. Elizabeth Ogilvie, Dec. 24, 1798. (2) Samuel /6, b. Oct. 17, 1777; m. Laurany Lambert. (3) William, b. Sept. 15, 1780; m. Rebecca Adams, Aug. 16, 1801. (4) Hezekiah /6, b. Jan. 27, 1783.
