About Joseph "Roscoe" Lancaster
Joseph "Roscoe" Lancaster, born August 11, 1919 in Spartanburg, SC and moved to Henderson County at age three and passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Elizabeth House in East Flat Rock, NC.
Parents Virgil Ross and Nora Lee Marlow Lancaster preceded him in death, also brothers, Paul, Guy, Ernest, Horace and infant brother Jay.
He was married to the former loving and dedicated Juanita Pittillo for 53 years before she preceded him in death in February of this year.
He was a graduate of the former Edneyville High School and the class of 1938. He served in the Army in World War II, stationed at Papuan Southern Philippines, New Guinea. He was awarded the American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, 3 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the local chapter of DAV and VFW.
He was a brick mason and loved to fox hunt in these mountains surrounding Henderson County. He became a friend to everyone he met and will be remembered for his love of laughter and sharing his lifetime memories with all.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Jayne L. Stepp and husband Stanley; two grandsons, Ryan Stepp and Kyle Stepp and wife Brianna; and twin granddaughters Nora and Nita Stepp all of Hendersonville; three brothers, Herman and wife Peggy of Flat Rock, George and wife Dean of Enka, and Jim and wife Sue of Hendersonville; three sisters, Sue Price of Silver Springs, MD, Bernice Pryor and Betty Holmes and husband RL of Hendersonville; many nieces and nephews and dear friends in the Fruitland, Clear Creek and Edneyville community he proudly shared his life with.
