Joseph married Mary Wadleigh in 1727 and had nine children, all born in New Hampshire: Nathaniel, born December 27, 1727, Jona than, Joseph, Weare, Joshua, Moses, Dudley, Wadleigh, and Mary. I believe at least two of his sons fought in the Revolutionary War, Nathaniel serving as a Lieutenant and Moses as a Captain. It is hard to confirm this as there were many Leavitts in New Hampshire at that time sharing the same names. It is known that Nathaniel and Moses were active in the army prior to the revolution and would make sense that they were called to serve in the revolution as most able-bodied men were. The fourth son, Joshua, had a son named Dudley (1772 to 1851) who went on to become a well-known and respected almanac-maker, publisher, mathematician, author, and teacher.
