About Joseph MACE/ MAYS

  • Joseph MACE came with the ship Matilda Atheling sailed from Birkenhead 13 August 1859 bound for Table Bay and arrived in Table Bay, Cape Town, South Africa on 27 October 1859.
  • But the arrival date given in the book "Thirteen Unique Buildings in GREYTON" page 10. ISBN 1-86854-478-8 (2002 Department of Architecture, University of Pretoria - Limited Edition by JT Kemp and JA du Pisanie) is 1843. The book is in my possession and the information in the book was given by my uncle (also) "Joe" Mays to the writers of the book.
I can't find a MACE on a ship in 1843.
  • The MACE surname pronounced to the clerk in Cape Town, was written down as MAYS.
