Joseph Matthys sailed on the "Vlissingen" from Rammekens on the River Scheldt on 12 August 1762 and arrived at the Cape on 3 January 1763. His name appears on the muster-roll of June 1766. His trade is given as that of hunter (Wiltschutter).
