Joseph Verlin Maturin

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joseph “Verlin” Maturin at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Korey LaVergne will be the celebrant. Mr. Maturin will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery following the mass.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the Catholic Daughters leading the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Monday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Joseph was born June 29, 1943 in New Iberia to the late Whitney Adam Maturin and the late Fedora Derouen Maturin, and passed away peacefully Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75.

Joseph, known by family and friends as “Verlin”, proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy. He was retired from the oilfield and worked with various companies throughout the Acadiana area. Some of his favorite pastimes were repairing and programming computers, piloting his ultralight airplane and flying remote controlled airplanes, and visiting with his coffee buddies in the afternoon. Above all, Joseph was dedicated to the love and care of his family. The time spent with them was cherished and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife and best friend of 32 years, Barbara “Bobbi” Maturin; his children, Craig Maturin and wife Monique, Shannon Maturin and Paul Paul Chevalon, and Scotty Maturin and wife Tonya Kay; 10 grandchildren whom he adored, Nicholas, Brittany, Seth and Gage Maturin, Justin James Heitman and Amber Heitman, Coty and Kirsten Maturin, Sage Dore and Brianna Maturin; numerous great grandchildren; and his sisters, Debby Ransonet and Sheri Prince.

Along with his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his daughter and son, Tiffany Maturin and Troy Maturin; and his sister and brothers, Meverly Maturin, Raywood Maturin and Richard Maturin. Members of the family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
