Delivery truck hits pedestrian in fatal accident BY COREY VAUGHN | THE DAILY IBERIAN Jun 12, 2018

Richard Maturin, 61, died Monday mor-ning after being hit by a UPS delivery truck in the parking lot of the Tobacco Plus store on Admiral Doyle Drive.

Maj. Wendell Raborn with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said the pedestrian-vehicle accident happened at 10 a.m. Maturin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.

Raborn said the driver, who had made a delivery inside the store, apparently didn’t see the pedestrian and hit him while driving away. The victim, who had a foot injury and was crawling in front of the truck, Raborn said, was pinned under the front axle. Passersby intervened and stopped the truck.

A memorial Mass for Mr. Richard James Maturin will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Father Bill Melancon officiating. The mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment will be at a later date.

Richard was born on December 29, 1957, in New Iberia. Richard passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018.

Richard enjoyed talking to people about God and going to church. He attended church at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children Jerehmiar Maturin of Conroe, Texas, Joshua Maturin, Noah Maturin (Shannon) Joshua and Noah are residents of Tennessee; a brother Joseph Maturin of New Iberia; two sisters Debby Ransonet of Sorrento and Sheri Prince of New Iberia and nine grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney Maturin and Fedora Derouen, of New Iberia; a brother Raywood Maturin and a sister Meverly Maturin
