About Joseph Bates Noble
Joseph Bates Noble was born on 14 January 1810 in Egremont, Berkshire, Massachussets, United States. He died on 17 August 1900 at the age of 90 in Bear Lake, Idaho, United States. Parents: Ezekiel Noble Jr and Theodocia Bates. Parents: Ezekiel Noble Jr.
Joseph Bates Noble served as a foot soldier in Zion's Camp, defended the church in Missouri, ranked as a Major in the Nauvoo Legion and was a key figure along with this friend, Orrin Porter Rockwell, in rescuing the bodies of Hyrum and Joseph. He conducted the first plural marriage in the Church by marrying his sister-in-law, Louisa Beman, to the Prophet Joseph.
Came West with the Jedediah M.Grant/Willard Snow Company. They departed Elk Horn River on 19 June 1847 and arrived on 4 October 1847. There were 166 individuals in that Company.
Joseph Bates Noble was the keeper of the Prophet Joseph Smith's Nauvoo Legion sword. A casket stick would soon be stowaway and the two relics would start a long journey in time. The sword was hidden for 165 years with instructions not to share it with anyone. It has been handed down from father to son in the Noble family for the special purpose in giving testimony to Joseph Bates Noble a friend, Bishop and bodyguard to the prophet.
