He was sailing on the Kronland on Feb 5, 1916. He then signed an oath of allegiance to the USA.

Per Marge: Salesman; family legend says he was in Europe when died of throat cancer while Grandmere was in hospital giving birth to Mary Elizabeth. However, NYT obit March 17, 1919 says he died at home on Mulry Lane, Lawrence LI NY. (see copy of obit in Photos)
Winnie here, I heard he was an ambassador to China, which is where he acquired those beautiful oriental rugs we all had (?)
He died at home, was in Eur when he became ill, he knew he had cancer of the jaw but at the time it was thought a cancer had to "ripen' before surgery. Drs let him go on business trip. He worked for a steamship line which imported Italian immigrants.---Elly
