Biography
He was a soldier as shown by probate records in two counties, Suffolk and Hampshire and had evidently gone to New Salem to settle before entering the army from which he never returned, there being a possibility of his being taken to Canada as a captive in 1759.
S.P.56-38 - Ebenezer Newcomb made administrator of Joseph Owen, husbandman, Jan.11,1760.
56-129, Inventory of Joseph Owen, blacksmith, deceased, Jan.23,1760 taken by John Ruggles, Joseph Field, Thomas Newcomb: Household goods only - includes - To money paid for his wages (in the army?).
57-38 - Estate insolvent and distributed to creditors Dec.5,1760.
Also Hampshire Probate Box 107 #41, Springfield, Jun.26,1759: My son Joseph Owen lately deceased left some estate in New Salem. Desires Richard Marks to be administrator. Administration given Mary Marks wife of Richard Marks of Western (now Warren) Worcester Co. On estate of Joseph Owen of New Salem, Jan.10,1760. Whereas by information for our above said administratrix, there is some ground to hope the above said Joseph Owen is now alive, a prisoner in Canada, and may return, 4 now the delay is allowed.
