Joseph pack
a book in a South Carolina library called "England's turbulent eighteenth century" by James Boswell in which it mentions Joseph pack. No book of that name turns up in a Google search, however there is a book "The Journals of James Boswell": 1762-1795. That might be the book since it is introduced by the distinguished poet and novelist John Wain, who says Boswell is a pre-eminent chronicler of eighteenth-century Britain and the tumultuous land about which he wrote so well.

Where are you finding that he received a land grant of 10,000 acres? The information I have located state that he 'acquired' over 10,000 acres, not that he received a single grant of that size. From what I find, Joseph received two land grants from King George III. They were:

In 1770 he received a grant of 100 acres situated on a branch of Enoree River called Cedar Shoals Creek. The waters of Broad River bounded South Westwards on William McDowell's land, Westwards on James Bright's land, North Westwards on land claimed by Thomas Jones, and the other sides on vacant lands.
In 1769 he received a grant of 350 acres in Craven County on a branch of the Tyger River. This branch was called Rocky Branch and it bordered on all sides by vacant land.

Some of the land grants given to Joseph Pack were from King George III of England, while others were from the state of South Carolina. Some of the land grants in Paxville may have been given to Joseph as a result of his Revolutionary War service. There is a marker honoring Joseph Pack’s service with the South Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War.
These are typical grants that people received. It appears someone has attempted to create a family connection that did not exist. .
