About Joseph Charles Payne, Free Settler "Golconda" 1858

interestingly permission for marriage was given by a Justice of the Peace (William Leyden) rather than Elizabeth's parents who were alive at the time.

The sittings of the Divorce and Matrimonial Court commenced yesterday. There is an unusually heavy list-no fewer than 12 cases having been set down for trial. Of these four were disposed of yesterday. In Buller v. Buller, and Payne v. Payne, the husbands sued for divorces on the ground of the misconduct of their wives, and in both instances the petitions were granted.
