About Joseph Sears

At his residence, near Fayette, on Tuesday night, 10th inst., of Erysipelas, Mr. Joseph Sears, in the 64th year of his age.

Mr. Sears. had lived in the neighborhood where he died, for the last forty years. No one enjoyed the esteem and confidence of his fellow-citizens more than him; in all the relations of life he was a true man, and in his demise the community has lost a valuable citizen, the church a shining light; a wife and family, and a large circle of friends and acquaintances commingle the tears of sympathy and sorrow, yet they feel that their loss is his gain.

A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled
and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 84.

SQUIRE A. SEARS was born in Missouri about 1852. His parents died when he

was a very small boy, leaving three children, two boys and one girl. The
subject of this sketch came to Richmond and lived with his uncle, Major
Squire Turner, who was a very distinguished lawyer. He was educated at the
old Academy and early embarked on a business career. He returned to
Missouri about 1880, locating in Kansas City. Here he lived for nearly
twenty years. Subsequently he removed to Tacoma, Washington, where he died
about l896. He received the degrees of Ancient Craft Masonry during the
autumn of 1873, and those of the Chapter in 1875. He was Knighted in
Richmond Commandery August, 1875. He was elected Master of his Lodge
December, 1877, after having served as both Junior and Senior Warden. He
was in line in the Commandery when he removed to Missouri. Shortly
afterwards he demitted from the various branches of the Order and it is not
known to the writer whether he ever again affiliated. He most probably did
because he had always manifested a marked interest in the same. His memory
is still held in pleasant recollection by all who knew him. He was married
but left no children.
