About Joseph Severance
He was by trade a tailor, which business he followed more or less both in Deerfield and Northfield where he owned both a "house and home lot." He also owned No. 36 in Deerfield on which he lived. He was in the fight on the meadows in 1704; was a soldier in the service in 1713; was wounded by the Indians and made a cripple IIe was compensated for this by the Gonerul court, which made him a grant of 200 acres of land eas of Northfield on Mt. Grace. His father also gave land in Deerfield. He was Corporal in Capt. Kellogg's Co in 1723, and Orderly in 1747, Selectman in 1722. A few years before his death he divided his real estate in Deerfield among his children, and he and his wife went to live with their youngest son Moses, in Montague, Mass., where they both died and were buried.His children were all born in Deerfield.
