About Joseph Tudor Todd
Joseph Todd. was born on January 15, 1645, in Eling Southampton, Hampshire, England , the child of John and Elizabeth (Mallory) Todd Sr. In 1658 when Joseph was thirteen years of age his father John Todd moved his family to Bermuda. After the request of the King and Queen of England to go patrol Port Royal, of Bermuda, John's brother Joseph Todd bought land for both families. Around 1667 at the age of twenty-two, Joseph got married to his first wife Ann Knowles in Bermuda. They had one son named Joseph Todd Jr. Between 1667-1675 he moved back to England were his wife Ann Knowles died in 1675. Sometime around 1675 he got married to his second wife Anne Worsham. .In 1679 Joseph married his third wife Joanne Bodycoats Swift. On March 2nd 1698 he wrote his will and in 1699 he moved his large family to America. On May 22,1699 he and his family departed from England on a ship with William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania) named "Owners Adventure". They arrived on Southampton, Pennsylvania in Aug 1699. He died on September 21, 1699, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 54. The cause of death might have been yellow fever. Half of the towns people died of this illness.One of largest deaths ever reported in Pennsylvania.
