Notes

1. The Todds of Southampton Bermuda are not related to the todds of Southamptonshire, England.

2. There was a clerical error in the transcription of the 1677 will of John Todd in which the transciption has the name Tudor several times, but the will doesn't mention Tudor even once.

3. The lineage of Mallory Todd as constructed from records in Virginia and Bermuda is:

  • John Todd d 1677
  • Joseph Todd b pr to 1646 md 1667 Ann Tatum
  • Joseph Todd b 1668 d 1708/1709 md Elizabeth Keele (dau of John Keele d 1715)

  • https://www.ancestry.com.au/boards/surnames.todd/3542?viewType=FLAT... “ For decades family historians have been trying to deduce the origins of several Todd families. In some cases, they made guesses or inferences based on the limited data they had, including looking at naming patterns and assuming connections when there were similiar names. DNA has helped us identify when those guesses were right and when those guesses were wrong. One confusing set of guesses had to do with two families of Todds with names like Joseph and Benjamin who both came from southamptonshire in southern England, but who do not share a common male ancestor. One of those families was Joseph Todd of Eling who died in Philadelphia in 1699; another was Joseph Tudor Todd who died in Bermuda. Joseph Todd of Bermuda had a kinsman named Mallory Todd who settled in Isle of Wight Co VA whose DNA does not match the Joseph Todd d 1699 Philadelphia family. These are not related families! ”
