Joseph Hubert Treat was the 3rd of 10 children born to William S. Treat born in Milford, New Haven, CT and Lucinda Hubbard born in Litchfield, Litchfield Co., CT. Her parents were from Maryland. The 1893 publication by John Harvey Treat, "The Treat Family," on page 398 reads, "Joseph Hubert Treat...born July 5, 1818 in Canfield, Mahoning Co. (Trumbull), Ohio; died Aug. 17, 1884 in Wadsworth, Portage Co. (Medina), Ohio; married March 30, 1838, Theresa Matilda Green, born May 6, 1818 in Middlesex, Mercer Co., Penn. He was a blacksmith." Joseph and Theresa had 13 children. The census lists his occupation as "collier" and "coal miner." Joseph died in 1884 at age 67 of Bright's (kidney) Disease at his residence. The 1870 census shows his residence is in Norton, Summit Co., Ohio; in 1880 his residence is Wadsworth Twp., "just outside the village of Wadsworth."
The "Wadsworth Enterprise" of 22 Aug 1884 notes, "Joseph Treat, an aged citizen of South Wadsworth, retired with his wife in his usual good health Saturday night. Both awoke at about midnight, smoked their pipes and again went to bed. At 3 o'clock Mrs. Treat was awakened by the heavy breathing of her husband, but before she could arouse him he ceased to breathe. Dr. Lyman was sent for, post haste, but all to no purpose, as life was extinct. Funeral services at the M.E. church Tuesday."
