Joseph Weaver, aged seventy-two, died suddenly Sunday morning early at the residence of his son Jonathan, at Honeytown, east of Wooster. He was in apparent good health; attending to his morning chores as usual, and on returning to the house stepped down into the cellar for some purpose, and dropped dead. [Wayne County Democrat, 17 Jul 1878 p. 3 col. 2]
Mr. Joseph Weaver, an early settler of this county, and resident upon the same farm, a few miles east of Wooster, for forty years, died suddenly last Sunday morning, aged 72 years. Mr. Weaver had been in town trading on Saturday, and appeared as well as usual. Sunday morning he was up and around doing chores and came into the house a little before breakfast was ready; he went out again but did not return at the proper time, when a search found him in the cellar, dead. Paralysis is supposed to have caused the sudden dissolution. The deceased was an intelligent, honest and upright citizen, and had the confidence and esteem of all who knew him.
