In September 1918 at age thirty-four, Joseph registered for the World War I draft in Pawhuska, Osage County, Oklahoma. He was described as being tall and of stout build, with black eyes and hair. He was residing in Gray Horse in Osage County and was working as a farmer on his own farm.

In February 1920, Joseph, Lizzie, and their five children were residing in Fairfax Township of Osage County, Oklahoma. Joseph does not have an occupation listed. It states that both his and Lizzie's parents were born in Kansas.

Joseph passed away in 1921. He was buried at Greyhorse Indian Village Cemetery in Gray Horse, Osage County, Oklahoma.

Supposedly poisoned. Mentioned in the book by David Grann called "Killers of the Flower Moon".
