Norman was a blacksmith, shipbuilder, and sea captain. He built several vessels in this parish and he used to load them with the products of the country, sail them to England, and then sell the ship as well as the cargo. He sailed in foreign seas and was once in the Holy Land. He settled at Arichat where he had an extensive forge in which about half a dozen hands were sometimes employed. He married Ursula Marmaud. Issue: — Maria, Josephine, Malcolm Jeremiah Thomas, Norman, and Edward Alexander.

Josephine married Rory McNeil, merchant, Grand Narrows. After the death of her husband, she kept up the business until it was taken over by the firm of McDougall and MacNeil.
