About Josephine Alberta Dundas
Mrs. Arthur DUNDAS. After a long and painful illness Mrs. Arthur DUNDAS was
deceased at her residence, Dufferin street, at an early hour last Tuesday
morning. Coming to Alliston some eighteen years ago from Essa Mrs. DUNDAS
was not altogether unknown here but her most amiable nature and her facility
for rendering assistance when help was needed in the home of a friend soon
endeared her to a host of friends who in turn rendered her many kindnesses
during her long and fatal illness. Mrs. DUNDAS was formerly Josephine
Alberta SELBY, third daughter of the late Britton SELBY and Eliza BELL SELBY
his wife. She was born on the second concession of the township of Essa
nearly sixty years ago and continued to live on the farm on which she was
born till she moved to Alliston [with] her husband, Mr. Arthur DUNDAS,
taking the place on the demise of her father. Twenty five years were spent
on this place by Mr. and Mrs. DUNDAS before they retired. To mourn her loss
are her husband whose health is precarious at the present time, one son,
Benson, four sisters and one brother -- Mrs. James AGAR of Lucknow, Mrs.
Jake REED of Dungannon, Mrs. John McMANN of Alliston, Mrs. Alexander AGAR of
Toronto and Mr. W. B. SELBY of Sharon. The funeral was held Thursday
afternoon when many friends gathered and many tributes were paid to the
kindly demeanor of Mrs. DUNDAS who was always solicitous of the happiness
and comfort of others and ever ready to shed the sunny rays of inspiration
where doubt had taken hold. As a consoler where trouble had brought the
dark clouds Mrs. DUNDAS was truly a remarkable woman. A private service was
held at the home followed by a service in the Anglican church of which Mrs.
DUNDAS was a faithful and consistent member. Rev. P. N. KNIGHT who
conducted the service paid tribute to the remarkable characteristics of this
woman. Interment was made in the Union cemetery the pall bearers being
Robert ADDIS, John CUNNINGHAM, James McMANN, Daniel JOHNSTON, Edgar TUER
and James A. KERR.
