1. From Aunt Geraldine's notes:
"He was a lawyer. A member of the County Court from 1876-1882, 1893 State House of Representatives, Tennessee General Assembly, 48th Session. Bills introduced; No's. 85, 303, 304, 410, 495, 520. In politics he was associated with the Democrtatic Party. He was a charter member of McAllister's Crossroads Post of the Fraternal Order of Masons Lodge.
He was overseer of the State Grange.
The Batson & Blackford cemetaries are located west of old Hiway 48 on bluff at Blackford's Spring and Louise Creek."
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, member of Patrons of Husbandry.

Blackford, Joseph Nathaniel (1841-1908)
House, 48th General Assembly, 1893-95; representing Montgomery and Houston counties; Independent. Born in 22nd civil district of Montgomery County Jan 5, 1841; son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Wickham) Blackford. Extent of schooling not determined. Married in Montgomery County Mar 6, 1861, to Rebecca Maria Matthews, daughter of Thomas and Martha (Batson) Matthews; their fifteen children were- Aaron Elicker, Martha L., Benjamin, Thomas M., John C., Eliza A., Josephus R., Samuel Wickham, William, Kittie, Bertha M., and infant son who died at birth, Richard Aaron Elicker, Robert Chesterfield and Nathaniel Baskette. Engaged in farming and practice of law at McAllisterís Cross Roads, Montgomery County. Member County Court 1876-82. Member Methodist Episcopal Church; charter member of McAllisterís Cross Roads Lodge, Free and Accepted Mason; member Patrons of Husbandry and overseer of State Grange. Died at Linton, Kentucky June 11, 1908; buried in Batson-Blackford cemetary, south of Clarksville, Montgomery County.
