Josephus C Van Hyning

Josephus VanHyning was born in Washington township, Lee county, Iowa, May 27, 1850, and passed away at his home in West Point, Tuesday, January 7, 1919, aged 68 years, 7 months and 10 days.

In 1881 he moved on the farm five and one-half miles east of West Point, which was their home for 35 years. In the spring of 1916 he moved to West Point, where he lived until his death.

He was married to Miss Lamira Larkin September 3, 1872.

In 1891 he united with the Methodist church at Pitman Chapel, since which time he has lived a faithful and devoted Christian, ever ready for his Savior's call.

He was a loving husband and kind father, ever thoughtful of his family. He leaves to mourn his loss, a devoted wife and five children, Lillie, Lon, and Will of West Point, Mrs. F. S. Sanderson of Pleasant Ridge and E. T. VanHyning of Canton, Mo., all being with him in his last illness. Also five grandchildren. One son Edward preceded him in death, March 27, 1916. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ward of Packwood, at the M.E. church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Interment was made in the city cemetery. Leyl Larkin of Burlington and Mrs. Irving of Fort Madison attended the funeral.
