Joshua's father, Hezekiah, moved his family from Tennesee to west-central Alabama when Joshua was a young boy between five and ten years of age. The family settled near present day Hamilton in Marion County, Alabama. The family farm was actually in a community called Bear Creek.
Joshua came of age in Marion County and married Nancy Jane Burleson. Together they had eleven children. The first six were born in Alabama and the younger five were born in Tippah County, Mississippi, where Joshua had acquired land for a new home.
His wife, Nancy, moved with her younger sons to Arkansas, in the 1880s, and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in the city of Van Buren.
Gravesite Details
Joshua may have been buried on his farm in Tippah County and his marker, since not in an established cemetery, was lost over time. Joshua might also have been buried in Old Poplar Log Cemetery in Marion County, Alabama, next to his father, Hezekiah.
