Joshua Shields

My Great Great Grandfather. He was one of the sons of Robert Shields (F.A.G. Memorial 8030341) and Margaret Emert Shields (3/9/1788-1862). Her burial location has not been found to date.

IDENTITY: Death Certificate 24122 of daughter Mary A. (Shields) Chambers, Georgia Bureau of Vital Statistics. Father's identity is Joshua Shields.

MARRIAGE: Blount County, Tennessee Marriage Records, Ceremony Performed by J.P Frederick Emmett.

RESIDENCES: 1840 U S Census, living in Blount County, TN. Household includes MALES - One age 10 to 15 UNKNOWN, One age 20 to 30 - JOSHUA SHIELDS. FEMALES - Two under 5 years - probably VINA who would have been 5 and MILLIE who would have been 3, and one age 20 to 30 - SARAH. Next door is James Johnston and family. These are likely his in-laws.

1860 U S Census, Cohutta Springs, Murray County, GA w/wife Sarah, children Vina, Milly, Margaret E, Mary, Milly C, Silas B, and Sarah J.

1870 U S Census, Spring Place, Murray County, GA w/wife Sarah, son Silas and a 15-year-old female named Catherine Carroll (daughter?). Brother Robert Shields, wife Emma and nine children live next door.

1880 U S Census, Alaculsa, Murray County, GA w/wife Sarah and son Silas B. Neighbors include many other Shields and Chambers families, including daughter Millie Shields, husband James Chambers and family as well as daughter Mary Shields, husband Roswell Juan Chambers and family.

1900 U S Census, Lower Young Cane, Union County, GA (widower, age 90) living with daughter Mary A, husband Roswell Juan Chambers and children Allie, Patrick, Juan W, Martha, Addie, and Calvin.

DEATH: 1910 U S Census, not found on any record after 1900. Presumed to have died between 1900 and 1910. No burial information found to date.
