More Notes on Samuel Bennett

There is also a Josiah Bennett who was born in Lancaster in 1708. He might or might not be this Josiah. A Josiah Bennett married Mary Ross in 1757 in Lancaster - he's probably related but probably not either of these Josiahs.

There is a Samuel Bennett moving to Shrewsbury who is almost certainly related to Josiah and Josiah.

BENNET, SAMUEL (probably from Lancaster) lived in N. Parish, (perhaps s. of Samuel, who signed the chh. covenant next after Rev. Mr. Gushing.) His wife's name does not appear on the town or chh. records. He d. Dec. 5, 1762, aged 72. Chil. Mary, bap. July 27, 1729 ; Abigail, Aug. 20, 1732 ; Ithamar, bap. Feb. 23,1735; Thankful, bap. July 8, 1739. Josiah and Jonathan may have been brothers of Samuel. James Bennet, of Concord, had Thomas, b. 1642. George and Lydia Bennet had Samuel, in Lancaster, 1665, whom I sup. to be the one who was here in 1723, and who, out of regard to age, then 68, took precedence of all but Mr. Gushing, in signing the chh. covenant. Josiah and Jonathan may have been his sons.

Looking more closely at Samuel Bennett of Lancaster (presently considered Josiah's father) - it's possible this Samuel is the Samuel mentioned above since the Samuel from Lancaster disappears around 1724, about the time the Samuel above appears. But some sources seem to suggest he remained in Lancaster. The conflicting death dates also concern me, especially since one of them gives Samuel's likely birth year as 1690.
