Note: Josiah Willard had an "unofficially" adopted daughter Ella Jane Luce. Ella's mother had died in 1833, followed by her father in 1838. Thereafter she went to live with the Willard's about the time Francis was born; and later in life sometime wrote her last name as Willard. She was living with them in Janesville when she met Jasper Benjamin Mallory while on the trip to Freeport IL in 1852. They married in 1853. Ella named one of her sons, Josiah Willard Mallory.
