Josiah married Sarah Lancaster (Ransom) on October 21, 1815, in Cumberland, Virginia, USA, She died soon after, no children born. He joined the Baptist Church before their marriage, her family were members of Sailor Creek Baptist Church, Prince Edward County, VA.
Josiah married Lucy Ann Lancaster (Hudson) in 1823 in Tennessee, USA. After his marriage to Lucy Baker(Hudson), he sold his plantation and moved to Jackson County, Alabama purchases a large of a large tract of land. He built a nice home all is going well for the Lancaster's when an untimely death takes him away from his young family. He leaves a wife and two young children.

Notes: Josiah Lancaster may have left the Episcopalian religion, when he married Sarah Ransom. It was noted he is named on a list of members of the First Baptist Mission Society in Prince Edward County, VA, when they met to organize at Jamestown, July 19, 1817. He and her family were members of the Sailor Creek Baptist Church in Prince Edward.
When marrying Sarah Ransom, he paid $1.00 to her father. Josiah was a part of many deeds and legal action suits as described on pages 23-39 of Lancaster book of family geneology compiled by Mary Nixon Rogers in 1975.
