Joyce Freville was the daughter of Baldwin Freville, Knt., of Tamworth, Worcestershire, and Maud le Scrope,[1][2] (Baldwin's second wife).[3] Her parents were married before 1394 and her father died in 1400,[3] so Joyce was likely born during that period.
Joyce married Sir Roger Aston, son and heir of Sir Thomas de Aston[4] and Elizabeth Leigh.[1] They had one son and one daughter:
- Robert, Knt.,[4] born about 1414, died 1464, married Isabel Brereton and had issue[1]
- Joan, married Roger Draycot, Knt.[1][4]
Joyce died before 1418. Roger remarried to Elizabeth Meynill and had no issue with her. He died in 1447.[1]
Joyce's father died in 1400 and her only brother, Baldwin, died in 1418 without issue. Her brother's Inquisitions Post Mortem record as as deceased in 1418.[5] The Freville estates were divided among Baldwin's sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth and Joyce's son, Robert, who received a portion of the manor of Middleton, among other properties.[6][7] Robert proved his age in 1436 and the Freville lands were partitioned.[8] Robert inherited Ashtead and held a court there as lord of the manor in 1442, and died seised of the manor in 1464/5.[9]
