From a newspaper article transcribed by "cindygailcindy" on Ancestry.com: Tragedy Hits Home Roland's wife Glaydys (sic) and daughters Joyce and Vivian drowned in a pond at Pleasant Grove on July 16, 1954. Roland was notified while attending trade school in Ringgold, LA, by a neighbor who rushed him to the Pleasant Grove farming community where they live. Wiggins, visibly exhausted by remorse, was somber as he was comforted by neighbors from miles around who gathered at the home of Pugh Fowler, where he was staying. Investigating the accident were Bienville Parish coroner Dr B C Ferguson, who said he had not reached a verdict yesterday, and Sheriff H N Davis. Besides her husband, Mrs Wiggins is survived by two sons, Roland Mike, 5, and Richard, 2; two daughters, Dorothy, 8, and Myra Ann, 7; her parents, Mr and Mrs Walter Tims of Coushatta; two sisters, Mrs Lucille Smith of Coushatta and Mrs Ruth Balenline of Sarepta; and four brothers, J B and J W Tims, both of Shreveport, Kenneth Tims of Coushatta, and J C Tims, who is stationed with the army at Fort Smith, Arkansas. The children are also survived by their paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs M G Wiggins of Jamestown. |
