About Juan Ambrosio Lopez de Restrepo Peláez
The first born son in a family was expected to become a priest. For their ordination the family had to put together a "campellania" or a dowry. This money was given under the condition that it would be inherited by direct family members who were priests. In return mases would be said for the family. Families could not permit that these large sums of money be lost and they would "fabricate" or make the first born in the family become a priest. There were at least 15 priests who were direct decendents of ALonso Lopez de Restrepo.
