Origins of New Mexico Families: A Genealogy of the Spanish Colonial Period by Fray Angélico Chávez is an important work on the genealogy of Spanish New Mexican families. The first edition was published in 1954; a revised edition came out in 1992.




He has an entire chapter dedicated to him in Chávez--A Distinctive American Clan of New Mexico, pages 3-107.

The Origins of New México Families, pgs. 161-162: Pedro Durán y Cháves married Juana Montoya on 27 Jan 1703.

On 7 Feb 1706, he was a member of the small military group with a part in the founding of Albuquerque. He and his wife are one of the First Families of Albuquerque who settled Albuquerque 1706. In 1706-1713, He was a squadron leader of the militia and conducted ex-governor Felix Martínez back to México City. He passed muster for the Hopi expedition on 20 Aug 1716 in Albuquerque. Despite the fact that he took part in the Moqui campaign in 1716, he resigned from the militia that year. He died on 7 Dec 1735.

Between 1714 and 1715 he was Alcalde Mayor of Los Padillas.

Pedro had ten children by Juana Montoya, named in his will.

Pedro's second wife was Gertrudis Sánches, by whom he had five children.

He had an affair with María Vallejos which yielded a son Bernardo Vallejos
