James Hooker 1666 - 1742
Biography
James Hooker was born on 27 OCT 1666 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut to Rev Samuel Hooker (1633-1697) and Mary Willet (1637-1712).[1][2][3] He died on 12 MAR 1742 in Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut.[4] On 1 Aug 1691 in Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut he married Mary Leete (1671-1753).[5] Mary Leete was born on 11 Jan 1671 in Guilford, CT to William Leete and Mary Fenn.[3] She died 5 Oct 1752/3.[6][7]
He was the first Judge of the Court of Probate for the District of Guilford, and a Magistrate.[8]
A deed records the relationship of the daughters of James Hooker and Mary Leete (and their respective husbands). On 27 Sep 1743 Widow Mary Hart of Guilford with her two sisters Hannah (wife of Thomas Smith Jr of the Highlands of province of Orange, NY) and Mehetable (wife of John Smith of Rye in Westchester County) conveyed land their their sister Sarah (wife of Capt John Bartlet) including all interests in lands of the estate of their father the late James Hooker Esq deceased.[9] From this was can deduce the following:
