Lott-Fayard Indian School, one of 5 branches, itinerant teacher was a Ms. Johnson who stayed a few months at each school location, annually. The interesting thing about the schools is that they allowed girls to attend. Students in this branch were Mahlon Beeson Holden, III, Jesse Lott, Samuel Lott, Joseph Lott, Edward Lott, Louisa Lott, Leona Alice "Lony" (Lott) Johnson, and Sarah Lott.
"Julia raised her brother John H. LOTT's three children (sic 4 Samuel Lott, Joseph Lott, Edward Lott, Louisa Lott), as he had been killed while working on a water wheel at a grist mill and his wife died shortly thereafter from an appendicitis while being transported by train to New Orleans for treatment. My grandmother (who seemed to really admire her mother-in-law, Julia) said several days after Mrs. Lott had been sent to New Orleans neighbors told Julia that John's children were by themselves at their house. It seems they were all preschool aged. Julia found the baby, Wiley, sitting in the fireplace eating ashes. She gathered them up and took them home with her. ~!Donna McClendon McGuyer" [http://www.patmcclendon.com/pounds.html]
