She was the mother of Alkus Banks (Eubanks), Chester Eugene "Gene" McClendon, Henry Monroe McClendon, John Edward McClendon, Leoter McClendon Cowart, and Minnie McClendon Mizell. She also raised her brother Johnny Lott's three children after Johnny and his wife died.

The dates on the gravestone and Julia's death certificate do not match. According to the death certificate from Washington Parish, LA, Julia's date of birth was Nov. 29, 1857 and her date of death was July 23, 1933. John Edward McClendon, Julia's son, provided the information on her date of birth and her marital status as "widow of" Joseph McClendon instead of divorced.
