Mrs. Julia LEAVITT, a daughter of the late deceased Charles WILKIE, and wife, was born in Bloomfield, December 12, 1852, and died last Friday, April 20, being seventy-one years of age. Bloomfield has always been her home, except eight years spent with the family residing in Iowa. While there she professed religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church at the age of twelve. She placed her membership with the Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield in 1865. Mrs. LEAVITT was the oldest of a family of six children—two brothers, Edmondson and Leroy, both of whom are dead, and three sisters, Mrs. C. W. COVERT, and Mrs. D. B. LONG, of Bloomfield, and Mrs. A. W. HARRIS, of Attica, Indiana. She was married to Joseph D. LEAVITT September 10, 1871, to which union four children were born, all of whom are living, and all are well known to the people of Bloomfield. They are Frank LEAVITT, of this city; Mrs. J. A. FAUCETT, of Morgantown; Mrs. Charles W. LAUGHLIN, of this city and Herbert LEAVITT, of Morgantown. The mother is the first to go away after a long and well-spent life. There are nine grandsons and one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons. All of the children and grandchildren were here except the oldest grandson and family. Mr. and Mrs. LEAVITT celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on September 10, 1921. Their long and faithful service to the church and community will never be forgotten. The funeral services were held at the family home on North Washington Street last Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Rev. T. B. MCAMIS, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, conducted the services. Interment in Grand View Cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Mar 31 2021, 23:00:43 UTC
