About Julian Webb
I have seen various names for the wife of Sir Henry, mother of Geoffrey Webb. In one document it is listed as Julian. This is also the name of Henry's daughter-in-law, Geoffrey's wife. In other documents it is listed as Dau Cloward. And I have also seen it listed as Julian Cloward. It is interesting to note that the name Dau Cloward shows up again, as the wife of Sir John Alexander Webb Jr., 5 generations later. This may be due to petty nobles renewing allegiance to one another by marriage, but one is forced to wonder how common is the name Dau.
This far up in the record, there are bound to be discrepancies. I personally believe that this woman is a Cloward. The debate over the names Julian and Dau, I leave to other persons.
I have come to the conclusion that Dau is not actually a name but an abbreviation for daughter, it seems that in the 14th century, the woman's actual name mattered less to the chroniclers then the fact that she was from another Noble House. This seems to be a trend for the lesser Nobility.
