About Julien Lesieur

A short story about the Duchesne/Lesieur family as handed down to me. I believe the sisters (nuns) related to my grandfather Charles Duchesne had this bit of history.

Charles Lesieur was the son of Julien Lesieur and Catherine Lesachee of Normandie, France. He was baptised in 1647 in La Rochelle, France, and married Francoise deLafond in 1672 at Batiscan, Quebec. Charles and Francoise's sons, Charles and Julien Lesieur, along with Etienne, Jean Baptiste and Pierre Gelinas are the original founders of the old Yamachiche Parish. Even though the Gelinas are said to have done the first tilling of the land, there is no doubt that they settled at Petite Riviere of Yamachiche at the request of the Lesieur brothers, Charles and Julien. In the actual Yamachiche church a framed writing is still on the wall for all to read. It is a document that brings honor to the Lesieur-Duchaine family.

Obit or Mass foundation for the deceased

The first day of May 1784, Sir Charles Lesieur and Simone Blanchet, widow of Sir Julien Duchaine, Lord of Yamachiche, signed an act before Mr. Poulin, Notary, by which they gave the church a piece of land of about 200 feet of frontage, right on the west side of the Yamachiche Great River and adjacent to the Gatineau property line; the above was decided on the condition that every year till pertuity, in this same church and during the Octave of All Saints of the benefactors, and the members of their families, the latter whether they had already passed away or after they pass away in the future. Another piece of land donated by sir Louis Gatineau was sold, in order to provide enough funds to have the above massed said, adding members of the Gatineau family to the Mass intentions.
