Obituary of Julius F. Kerr
Added by jtrose179 on 27 Nov 2007
GOOD CITIZEN, correspondent of the LANDMARK
The imprint of many human feet, a freshly made mound strewn with flowers yet unwithered, a home shorn of its strength and fatherly care, a neighbor gone - Julius Kerr lies sleeping. All the people in the neighborhood came to pay their last sad respects - the men with somber, subdued faces, the women with tears and flowers. Not in all their lives had the people been called on to witness so tragic an end to a good man's life.
Mr. Kerr was a man of good common sense, a successful man in his calling, a staunch liberal supporter of the church: a good neighbor, a kind, indulgent husband, and a fond loving parent.
The ravages of desease had wrought so much havoc on the nerve and brain forces that, in the end, reason had been disenthroned and to find surcease from bodily suffering the weak flesh succumbed to the act of an irresponsible, unaccountable hand that through a life of 57 years had been held firmly and faithfully on the helm of a well regulated life.
There is left a wife, three sons and three daughters. What mortal has the right to judge harshly? It is reasonable that after a life of 57 years of unswerving fidelity abd faithful service to the Master, that in the last dark, sad hours of agony a God of love and mercy would forsake such a one? Ah, no. Ymo.

Suicide of Julius Kerr
Added by jtrose179 on 27 Nov 2007
The LANDMARK mentioned briefly in its last issue that Mr. Julius F. Kerr, a farmer living in the neighborhood of Perth Church, below Troutman's, had been found dead on his premise Friday morning. Investigation disclosed that Mr. Kerr had committed suicide by cutting his throat with his knife.
Coroner Geo. M. Foard and Dr. R. A. Campbell conducted the investigation and found the following facts were developed: early Friday morning Mr. Kerr went out to feed his hogs some distance from the house. He did not return as soon as expected and some of his family went to look for him. He was found dead, lying face down in a pool of blood with his pocket knife in his hand. A severe gash had been cut in his throat and death resulted from the wound. It was very evident that the wound was self-inflicted and the coroner's jury, composed of J. M. Patterson, G. M. Young, G. W. L. Cavin, F. K. Oswalt, P. H. Collins, and W. H. Evans, found that the deceased came to death by his own hand.
Mr Kerr had been a great sufferer from dyspepsia for a long time and was much depressed on this account. Some time recently he had said to his wife that he believed he would kill himself, but she did not take the remark seriously. Thursday night he was very restless and it is supposed that his physical suffering had so affected him that his mind was temporarily unbalanced.
Mr. Kerr was a prominent and well to do farmer and was highly esteemed in his neighbiorhood. He was about 57 years old and his wife and several children survive him.
