About Juozapas Purickas

Ferdynand Bronislaw Artur Piotr Purycki from the Korybut branch (shown in the RGIA Puritsky case) was baptized in Rumšiškės parish in 1852. There is no question that Jozef and his descendants are part of the clan that was affirmed in the Russian nobility around this time. Ferdynand's father, Tomasz-Kazimierz, is possibly Jozef's brother.

Many Puritsky (roughly 26) from this Korybut branch were affirmed in the Russian Empire from 1852-1865. Others were registered from 1805-1882, this includes the ancestors of Dr. Purickis who is closely related to this family. The original affirmation of the Korybut arms was recorded by Mikhail Fomin Puritsky in 1805 Vilnius. It has been determined he was the founder of the branch. There are no earlier recordings of Korybut in heraldry for Purycki, Purzycki or associated names. This branch is found later in the Kaunas and Trakai regions.

The details of other Puritskys affirmed with Mikhail (as stated in the case) in the 1805 Vilnius noble assembly decision are not mentioned in the RGIA 1343 Puritsky case so it is not known if anyone else changed to Korybut from Pomian at that time or just Mikhail and his sons. (In the 1816 nobility census, three of his sons are also recorded.) The Pomian herb is traditionally associated with Purzycki of the Kaunas family.

After the Russian partitions, for many Lithuanian families it commonly took decades for a larger number of family members to affirm as nobles in the Russian Empire. Normally, the wealthy and those holding positions before 1795 were the first to be affirmed before 1810.

Jozef is mentioned as a nobleman in the 1860 marriage metric of his son.
