Jurie was caught on 27 February 1900 at Paardeberg at the surrender to the english in the second Boer war of South Africa. He was originally from Witkoppies. He was 23 years old at the time of his capture, and was sent to Camp Deadwood in St. Helena. Prisoner number 3662. Where he carved a small wooden box which ended up with his grandson - Jurie Jacobus Bezuidenhout.
