Justice Ketterman was Dec. 20th, 1795 on the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River, Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He was the second born child of eight children born to George Ketterman & Mary Magdelena Henkel.

Between the time he was born, and the time he was married, Justus had moved to Ohio. This is where he met and married Mary Ann Wood on Dec 30th, 1819 in Ross County, Ohio. Justus was 24 years of age and Mary Ann Wood was 16 at the time of their marriage. Justus and Mary Ann (Wood) Ketterman had the following children;

Justus and Mary Ann moved to Delaware County, Indiana in 1850, then to Benton County, Iowa in 1855. Justus's final stop was when he moved again to Urbana, Benton County, Iowa in 1862. When Justice Ketterman moved into Marysville he bought a house built by Tom Dilbey and here conducted a tavern until his death. This old tavern was still standing in the west part of Urbana until 1934, when it burned down.
