About Justice Samuel C. Owings, Sr.

Samuel became one of the principal land-owners in Baltimore County, Maryland, having patented 300+ acres in Baltimore County and having large tracts of land in Frederick County as well. He was one of the Commissioners under the act of the Asembly of 1741 to purchase a site for St. Thomas Church, Garrison Forest. He was one of the vestry of the new parish from 1750-52 and register from 1753-57. He was made an Associate Justice of the Baltimore County Court on Feb. 27, 1743 and was aJustice of the Peace from 1744-68. He represented Baltimore County in the lower house of the Maryland General Assembly from 1758-61. His will was dated Nov. 16, 1772.
