About Juwairiyah Firdaws Kalim
Killed by stepfather Kamal Gyanendra Reddy [along with mother]. Kamal murdered Juwairiyah and her mother Pakeeza at the end of 2006 or start of 2007 at Howick. Their remains were found under Auckland's Takapuna motorway overbridge seven years later in October 2014 following an extensive six-month undercover police operation. Kamal had strangled Pakeeza with the cord of an electric iron and smothered Juwairiyah with a pillow. He woke his uncle Bal Krishnan Naidu who was working as a site manager on the new Takapuna landing bridge and the two drove the bodies to the site. Kamal returned later and buried the Pakeeza and Juwairiyah on the western side of the bridge. Source: https://debbiemccauleyauthor.wordpress.com/biographies/new-zealand-....
Juwairiyah Kalim, also known as Jojo, was a bright, chatty four-year-old who loved drinking tea with her grandmother. In June 2016, south Auckland mechanic Kamal Reddy was jailed for life for her murder and the murder of her mother, 24 year-old Pakeeza Yusuf. Prior to moving to the south Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe to begin the long search for her daughter and granddaughter in 2013, Banu lived in Fiji. She kept in close contact with Pakeeza, a doting mother, and Juwairiyah, who loved to chat on the phone. Three, sometimes four times a day, Juwairiyah would call her nana. She was a chatty little girl and Banu would have to keep a close eye on the toddler whenever they went shopping. Juwairiyah loved to talk to strangers saying, "Hi, hello," to everybody she passed. During a visit in 2006, Banu took Juwairiyah, then aged three, to Fairburn Preschool. To her surprise the teachers told her it might be time to move Juwairiyah into kindergarten early. "She distracted all the children," Banu said. "She was always the first one to put her hand up and tell the answer. The teacher said if she's here all the children will be disturbed." There was no doubt Juwairiyah was bright. Even at a young age she animatedly relayed the plots of her favourite cartoons to her grandmother, and often mimicked Banu. In late 2006 or early 2007 she and her mum disappeared. The last phone call Banu shared with her daughter was a terse one, with Pakeeza complaining about her boyfriend Kamal Reddy, and Banu essentially telling her there was nothing she could do. Subsequent phone calls from Banu to Pakeeza went unanswered. Disturbed, Banu moved to New Zealand in 2013 to search for her daughter. In 2014, Reddy was charged with Pakeeza and Juwairiyah's murder. He told undercover police officers he strangled Pakeeza in a fit of rage, then smothered defenceless Juwairiyah so she couldn't identify him later. The bodies of the two, now skeletal remains, were discovered buried in mud under the Takapuna Landing Bridge on Auckland's North Shore. When their remains were finally released back to the family, Banu faced the heart-wrenching task of hand-wrapping the skeletons in cloth before they were buried.
