BIOGRAPHY Katharina was born 30 November 1599, the sixth of fourteen children of Graf Karl Franz von Harrach zu Rohrau and Freiin Maria Elisabeth von Schrattenbach. On 20 May 1618 in Prague she married Graf Maximilian von Waldstein, Herr von Wartenberg, son of Graf Adam von Waldstein and Freiin Elisabeth von Waldstein. Katharina's father was one of the most influential personalities at the imperial court in Vienna, serving as counsellor to three emperors. The high esteem in which Karl Franz was held was shown when Emperor Rudolf II attended the wedding, as did the ambassadors of the Pope, Spain, Denmark and Saxony. Rudolf's successor as emperor, Matthias, while still an archduke, had attended the wedding of Katharina's parents in 1591.
Katharina and Maximilian had eight children of whom two sons and a daughter would have progeny. Katharina served as a lady-in-waiting at the court of Empress Eleonora I Gonzaga, wife of Emperor Ferdinand II, and was said to be very close to her. Katharina died 22 August 1640.
