A daughter of Johann Adam and Anna Katharina Kaufmann Riess. Her father was a shoemaker in Meerholz, Germany.
Utica Daily Press Feb 24,1908 Mrs. Catherine Reusswig died at her home, 86 Taylor Avenue, Saturday afternoon at 2:o'clock. She had been ill for the past year with Bright's disease. Mrs. Reusswig was born in Meerholz, Hessen, Nassau, Germany, January 19, 1833, where in 1854 she married E. William Reusswig. In 1872 she came with her husband and family to this country and resided for many years at New York Mills, but since 1881 had lived in Utica. Her husband died in1887. Since coming to this country she has been a member of the Moravian Church. She was faithful in Christian service and a devoted Mother she is survived by six children, Mrs. M. C. Rohm, Mrs. George Wolfe, Magdalene, Elizabeth E., William and Fred G. Reusswig of Utica. She leaves also 17 grandchildren, a sister and brother in Germany and a sister in Dayton, Ohio.
Death of Mrs. Reusswig An earnest Christian Woman Who Died This Afternoon. Shortly after 2 0' Clock this afternoon, at her home, 86 Taylor Ave., occurred the death of Mrs. Catherine Reusswig, after years of illness of Bright's Disease. It has been expected for some time that Mrs. Reusswig could not long survive but her death came rather unexpectedly at the last, as it was not thought that she was in especially immediate danger to-day. The deceased was known to a large circle of acquaintances as a lady of high character, and her life has been one devoted to her family and her friends. Patient in every suffering, thoughtful and unselfish in every particular throughout her life, with all, cheerful and hopeful, she was a woman of marked excellence, and one who was loved by all members of the community in which she resided. Mrs. Reusswig was born in Meerholz, Hessen, Germany, January 19,1833. She was reared in a modest Christian German home, and in 1872 with her husband and members of her family came to this Country. They resided for sometime in New York Mills, and in1881 they came to Utica, which has been the home of the family since that time. Her Husband, E. William Reusswig died in 1887. Throughout her residence here Mrs. Reusswig has been a member of the Moravian Church and her life has been one that was an inspiration in patience and love to all who behold her course. Mrs. Reusswig is survived by six children. They are Mrs. M.C. Rohm, Mrs, George Wolfe and the Misses Magdaline and Elizabeth Reusswig; E. William Reusswig and City Comptroller Frederick G. Reusswig. Their are 17 grandchildren and a sister and brother in Germany. Also one sister who resides in Dayton, Ohio. To the members of the family will be extended the sympathy of a large circle of acquaintances.
UTICA HERALD-DISPATCH, TUESDAY Evening, FEBRUARY 25, 1908 Funeral services for Mrs. Catharine Reusswig were held privately from her late home. No. 86 Taylor avenue. at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. R. H. Berrre ke. Jr. of the Moravian Church officiating. The singing was by a quartette choir whose members were Mrs. Lillian Karker. Miss Emma Ernardt, Eugene Sumeree and William Simmerer. The bearers were members of the family. Burial was made at Forest Hill Cemetery.
