About Katherine Toews
Obit from Messenger of Truth Issue 4, 1986:
Katherine Sobering Toews was born to Heinrich and Magdelena Reiger Sobering on October 23, 1899, in Zichydorf, Hungary. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 23, 1986, at the Grace Nursing Home, Livingston, California. She reached the age of eighty-six years.
She came from Hungary to Canada with her parents and family in 1900. They made their home in Steinbach, Manitoba, where she grew to womanhood.
In her youthful years, she felt her lost condition and heard and responded to the Lord's call. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 16, 1915, by Min. Wilhelm Giesbrecht. In this faith she lived and died.
On April 15, 1917, she was married to Jacob D. Toews in Steinbach, Manitoba, living together almost sixty-nine years. They made their home in various places--Canada and Oregon, but primarily California, where their children were born and reared.
Those left to feel the loss are: her husband, Jacob; four sons: Monroe and Irene, Atwater, California; George and Margret, Spokane, Washington; Roy and Andree, Scio, Oregon; John and Ruby, Atwater, California; three daughters: Bertha, Mrs. John Jantz, Atwater, California; Lorraine, Mrs. Loyd Jantz; Marlene, Mrs. Ron Jantz, both of Clarksdale, Mississippi; one brother, John Sobering; two sisters: Magdalena, Mrs. Peter Wohlgemuth; Bertha, Mrs. John Busko, all of Canada; twenty-four grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, Florence; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held on January 27, 1986, at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Winton, California. Ministers Leon Koehn, Allen Jantz, and Donald Milsap were in charge. Burial was in the Winton Cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 19 2022, 10:41:18 UTC
